We are very thankful to the Lord for many church members who give their time, gifts and energy to serving him and serving the church family.

This page gives brief details of some of the serving roles which happen.  (It is by no means exhaustive — many people serve in a wide variety of ways, some of them unnoticed, and it would be impossible to list them all).  Please do browse through to see if you might be suited to any of them.  Clicking on each title will expand further details.

All of these roles would require you to be a Christian.  If you are not yet a believer in Jesus, we are delighted that you’re interested in getting involved.  Please keep coming along to services and chat with us about what it means to follow Christ.

Who:

When:  9:30am–12:45pm every Sunday (except 4th Sunday of the month)
Who:
  • someone who loves Jesus
  • a willingness to learn and be trained
  • patience and ability to listen to children/young people

  • attend the weekly prep session
  • get alongside the children/young people and take part in small group discussions
  • pray for the children/young people regularly
When:  6:30–8:45pm every Thursday (term-time)
Who:
  • someone who loves Jesus
  • some Bible teaching ability, with a willingness to learn and be trained
  • ability to listen to and get alongside young people (knowledge of youth sub-culture not required!)
What:
  • lead the session (planning and running games and activities) around once a month
  • set aside time to prepare and lead a talk/Bible study around once a month
  • get alongside the young people and pray for them regularly
When: 4:30–6pm Sundays (term-time)
Who:
  • someone who loves Jesus
  • a willingness to learn and be trained
  • ability to listen to and get alongside young people (knowledge of youth sub-culture not required!)
What:
  • support the leader in running the session each week
  • take part in small group discussions
  • get alongside the young people and pray for them regularly
When:  9am–12noon or 5–8pm one Sunday per month, plus one possible midweek rehearsal per month
Who:
  • a desire to help the church in our singing to the Lord and to encourage one another
  • able to sing and/or play an instrument as part of a group
  • willing to practise and grow in using musical gifts
What:
  • play/sing as part of a regular morning or evening group one Sunday per month
  • set aside time to become familiar with and practise songs before the Sunday
  • attend the rehearsal 90 minutes before the service (and one midweek rehearsal for some groups)
When:  9am–12noon or 5–8pm one Sunday per month, plus one possible midweek rehearsal per month
Who:
  • a desire to help the church in our singing to the Lord and to encourage one another
  • able to sing and or/play an instrument and lead the group at rehearsals and on Sundays
  • able to coordinate and prepare the group ahead of a Sunday service
What:
  • become familiar with songs that have been chosen and think through arranging them for the group
  • communicate with the group before Sunday and liaise with service leader on any queries
  • ensure music is available, arrange and lead rehearsals, and lead the group during the service
When:  10:30am or 6:30pm Sunday service once every 8 weeks
Who:
  • willing to serve our church family by reading the Bible
  • able to read thoughtfully and clearly in a public setting
What:
  • set aside time to read and pray through the passage in advance of Sunday
  • read the Bible passage thoughtfully and clearly in the service
When:  10:30am or 6:30pm Sunday service once every 8 weeks
Who:
  • willing to serve our church family by leading intercessory prayers
  • able to pray out loud thoughtfully and clearly in a public setting
What:
  • receive an email from Church Office with the week’s prayer pointers
  • set aside time to prepare intercessions before the Sunday
  • lead prayers in our Sunday service
When:  10am–12noon or 6–8pm one Sunday every 4–6 weeks
Who:
  • technical skills or willing to learn
  • some musical aptitude is helpful, particularly for operating the PA desk
  • someone who would like to be part of a small team

  • technical support for our Sunday services (in visuals, streaming or sound)
  • training and support given as you take on the role
When:  10am–12noon or 6–8pm one Sunday every 6–8 weeks
Who:
  • able to offer a friendly welcome to everyone coming to our services
What:
  • welcome people as they arrive at church
  • keep an eye out for newcomers, those who are on their own and visitors
  • chat with them before and after the service and introduce them to others
When:  10am–12noon or 6–8pm one Sunday every 4–6 weeks
Who:
  • able or willing to learn how to make, serve and clear up drinks
  • someone who would like to get to know others at church
What:
  • prepare and serve tea and coffee after the service, and clear up afterwards
  • chat briefly with those coming to the trolley or hatch
  • get to know the small team you are serving with
When:  9:45am–12:30pm or 5:45–8:30pm one Sunday per month
Who:
  • an organised person who can work through a list of duties with diligence and care
  • awareness of others, able to intervene and offer help and support where needed
  • able to commit to arriving early and staying slightly later for services when on duty
What:
  • arrive 45 minutes before the service to unlock and set up
  • sit towards the back to keep an eye out and provide any practical support needed
  • after a service ensure that doors are locked, windows are closed, and the premises are left tidy and secure
When:  1–2 hours every other Wednesday evening
Who:
  • mature faith and humble, godly character
  • some Bible teaching ability, with a willingness to learn and be trained
  • love for God’s people and a desire to care for the group
What:
  • set aside time to prepare each Bible study and pray regularly for group members
  • lead the Home Group meeting
  • offer care and hospitality within and outside of the group
When:  9:30–11:30am Tuesday/Thursday (WBS), 2–3:30pm Tuesday (MBS) or 7–8am Friday (MBS)
Who:
  • mature faith and humble, godly character
  • some Bible teaching ability, with a willingness to learn and be trained
  • love for God’s people and a desire to care for the group
What:
  • set aside time to prepare each Bible study and pray regularly for group members
  • lead the WBS/MBS group meeting
  • offer care and hospitality within and outside of the group
When:  alternate Monday mornings or afternoons, and occasional summer trips out
Who:
  • someone who loves Jesus
  • a desire to serve the older age group of those free on Mondays in practical and caring ways
What:
  • support the Group in practical ways before, during and after meetings (e.g. preparing and clearing away furniture, serving drinks, washing up)
  • get alongside and chat with members
  • help with occasional lunch/tea preparation

Who:
  • someone compassionate with a bit of spare time
  • flexibility to take on a variable commitment
  • own transport required
What:
  • be able to chat, show love and care, and keep promises and confidentiality
  • encourage those going through difficult times

  • able to follow instructions in the kitchen and act as sous chef
  • if possible, able to co-ordinate cooking a meal for a group of 40–60

  • prepare and serve meals for 40–60 students in the church kitchen
  • work with a small team
  • undertake a short online food safety training course
When:  ad hoc for occasional lunches/teas/weddings/mid-week evening events
Who:
  • able to carry out practical preparation and clear-up tasks
  • willing to work as part of a team

  • set up rooms for events (chairs, tables, etc.)
  • prepare drinks, serve food, wash up, vacuum, tidy the room afterwards

  • basic DIY and ‘odd jobs’ skills

  • serve the church family by doing ‘odd jobs’ around the building
  • could include: maintenance, DIY, carpet cleaning, changing lightbulbs, putting up shelves, fire alarm testing

  • a physically active person with a bit of spare time
  • someone who enjoys gardening and being outdoors
  • someone who would like to be part of a small team
What:
  • join occasional churchyard gardening/tidy up mornings
  • help with gardening when you have a bit of spare time

Who:
  • willing to serve with essential behind-the-scenes practical jobs
What:
  • empty the bins and recycling once per week
  • refill the toilet roll, paper towel and soap dispensers
When:  7:30–10pm one Monday every two months, plus occasional one-off meetings
Who:
  • basic note-taking/secretarial/organisational skills, or willing to learn
  • willing to learn the role and to support the Rector, Churchwardens and PCC
  • able to respect confidentiality
